How much revenue does a company make?

Updated: · Reinhold Lackner

In Austria you find a company's revenue only if it has to publish it. That depends on legal form and size class. For most small GmbHs it is nowhere, but the balance sheet still tells a lot.

Who publishes revenue

Capital companies file their annual accounts with the company register (section 277 UGB). How much becomes public depends on the size class (section 221 UGB):

  • Micro and small: balance sheet only, without a profit and loss account (section 278 UGB). Revenue is not included.
  • Medium-sized: balance sheet and profit and loss account (section 279 UGB). Items may be combined; then the gross result often appears instead of revenue.
  • Large: the full accounts with profit and loss account and management report, revenue included.

What a small company's balance sheet shows

Even without revenue the balance sheet says a lot: total assets, equity, liabilities and cash, over several years. The size class gives a frame: a small company stays below two of three limits, 12.5 million euros revenue, 6.25 million euros total assets and 50 employees.

Partnerships without a capital company as general partner and sole traders publish no accounts. Their revenue is not public.

How to find the figures on our site

Every company page shows for free which annual accounts were filed and in which size class, with the trend without amounts. The figures themselves are in the financial report: balance sheet and, where published, revenue and result across all years, unchanged from the register. One company is free with your free query.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I find revenue for a GmbH?

Because small and micro companies only have to publish the balance sheet. That is most GmbHs in Austria.

Can I work out revenue from the balance sheet?

No. The balance sheet shows assets and debts on one day, not the year's sales. The size class only gives a frame.

Where do I see whether a company is large?

From the size class in its annual accounts. Large companies are listed at /groesste-firmen.

Are your figures official?

The amounts come unchanged from the annual accounts in the register. Ratios and the trend are our evaluation.
