Will my new customer pay? What you can see first

Updated: · Reinhold Lackner

No public register tells you whether a customer pays on time. The company register does show how old a company is, whether it files its accounts, how its equity looks and whether a lot changed lately. From that you choose the payment term and any security.

What no register shows

Payment behaviour, unpaid invoices with other suppliers and current orders are public nowhere. Credit agencies and credit insurers collect their own data for a fee.

What the company register shows

These signals are public and free:

  • Age: a company registered only a few months ago has no accounts and no history yet.
  • Annual accounts: capital companies file them within nine months (section 277 UGB). Missing years are a warning sign.
  • Equity: negative equity over several years is a clear sign. The Business Reorganisation Act names an equity ratio below eight percent together with a notional debt repayment period above 15 years (section 22 URG).
  • Changes: a new name, seat and management within a short time deserve a question.
  • Insolvency register: proceedings and sales in insolvency proceedings are published by the judiciary.

From signal to payment term

For an established company with accounts on time, a usual payment term is reasonable. For a young company or missing accounts, prepayment, a deposit or partial invoices are common ways. The decision is yours; we show signals from the register, not a credit rating and not legal advice.

The customer check on firmenbuchdaten.at

The customer check covers every point above in one step and shows a traffic light with a suggested payment term. Each signal names its source. The first check uses your free query; subscriptions cover ongoing checks.

You can watch important customers and get an e-mail as soon as something changes in the register or new accounts arrive.

Frequently asked questions

Does the customer check replace a credit report?

No. It shows signals from the company register and the insolvency register. It knows nothing about other people's payment experience.

May I check a customer in the register?

Yes. The register, the annual accounts and the Ediktsdatei are public.

What do I do with a red signal?

Ask, and agree on security such as prepayment or a deposit. What fits legally in your case is a question for your lawyer.

What does the customer check cost?

One company is free with your free query. Pro and Business cover more checks, prices at /preise.
